Autobiography I was born in Darwen, near Blackburn. My family was and is a hard-working and traditional Pakistani family and I have always been polarised by issues of identity, faith and community. I come from a family of poets: my grandfather and great-grandfather were poets in the Pushto and Urdu languages. However, my initial love for literature was nurtured by my mother. My first memory of her: lying comatose, head nestled in a pillow, reading an Urdu novel. I kept my first diary on a nine month trip to Pakistan. Millions of words later, I have written The Curry Mile...I believe it is a bold viewpoint of life within the Asian community which has echoes in other communities of diaspora.
From an early age I have been fascinated by words, but preferred comics until the timely intervention of a wiser soul guided me to The Lord of The Rings and my path was set. I attempted to write my first novel when I was 14 - I ran out of steam, but I produced some great maps of a fantasy world! Perhaps, if I have time and the opportunity, I shall return to that first attempt and complete it. Published Work
